Salute to Veterans
It was a wet day at Wings & Wheels this month, with the low ceilings, and drizzling rain sticking around most of the day.
This month was a salute to veterans. This is our way of saying THANK YOU to all who have served, are serving, and will serve in the armed forces protecting our freedoms and liberties.
We had what is affectionaly known as "The Rick Sharpe Air Force" on hand, with his C-47 "Spooky", T-34, as well as the "Guns for hire" A-26.
His planes were joined by the CAF's B-17 known as "Texas Raiders"
The CAF was selling tours of the B-17 and had people on hand to discuss the CAF, as well as the restoration of their B-17.
Wings & Wheels wouldn't be complete without the wheels, so museum volunteer Max Tribolet invited The Lone Star Region of the Porsche Club of America and they lined up about 20 Porsche's in front of the museum. We also had a few Dodge Vipers in front of the museum as well.
We had one fly-in visitor, a silver Taylorcraft. The owner was very pleased to have his plane sit among all the other warbirds and military aircraft. At the end of the day the low ceilings keep him from leaving, so we let him keep the plane in our hangar overnight and he came back and got the plane on Sunday.
Lunch was donated by The SRP Group at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. It was a welcome change from the norm.
If you would like to donate the lunch for a future Wings & Wheels, and get a little free advertising in exchange, send us an email and let us know!
As always, thanks to all who came out, and a big thanks to our intrepid volunteers who make Wings & Wheels possible.
