Wings and Wheels

Wings & Wheels 2010

2010 saw great growth in our museum. We gave away our 3rd airplane, and started the raffle for the 4th!

Wings & Wheels has grown to be a stellar event, as well as something all the hard working volunteers can be proud of.

THANKS to everyone who came out and helped to support the museum in 2010, we hope to see you back in the many years to come!

Each month, Wings & Wheels has a different theme to keep things fun and interesting. For a particular month's theme, we will try to get planes on static display, guest speakers, or hold special events which correspond to the curent theme.

No matter what type of plane you have, it is always welcome at Wings & Wheels!

Chopper Day

Chopper day means helicopters & motorcycles!

We will be welcoming helicopters and motorcycles to the museum for a day of fun for the whole family! Past guests have included the LifeFlight air ambulance, the SkyFox News Helicopter, a Vietnam-Era UH-1 Huey, a US Coast Guard Dauphine, and many more!

Business Aviation Day

Join us as we celebrate the role that aviation has played in business over the past century.

Business aviation day will feature aircraft that were or are used for corporate travel, such as the museum's own Lockheed Lodestar.

Cessna Day & AOPA Let's Go Flying Day

From the most popular and prolific training airplanes in the world, the Cessna 152 & Cessna 172, to cabin-class twins like the Cessna 421, and even to the fastest civilian jet in the world, the Cessna Citation X, the company that Clyde Cessna started has always and continues to make great airplanes.

We would like to welcome any and all Cessnas, from early 120's, 140's, and 195's to modern 350's, 400's, and jets to our ramp on this day! Also on this day, come meet representatives from several local flight schools and take the first steps toward realizing your dream of becoming a pilot!

Women in Aviation Day

Join us for this Wings & Wheels day as we salute all of the women who have contributed to the field of aviation over the years.

We will have representatives from several women's aviation organizations: The Ninety-Nines, Women in Aviation International, Girls With Wings, and many others on-hand for this event, and we would love to have you, too!

Beechcraft Day

Calling all Beechcraft!

Since Walter Beech came out with his first airplane, the Beechcraft Company has come out with many, many types of aircraft, and has established themselves as the lead manufacturer of aircraft for fast, safe, private transportation.

On this Wings & Wheels day, we pay tribute to this great company and line of aircraft by welcoming Beechcraft of all models to the museum. From early-model Staggerwings to late-model King Airs and BeechJets, we welcome them all!

Recreational Aviation Day

Join us as we welcome the Recreational Aviation Foundation in promoting and celebrating aircraft as the perfect gateway to the grandeur and beauty of the back country. From West Texas to Wyoming, from Mexico to Alaska, aircraft can take us to locations inaccessible by any other means. We tentatively plan to host a fly-in camp out at the Museum the night of Wings & Wheels for all interested fly in visitors.

Beechcraft Day - Take Two!

Since our originally scheduled Beechcraft day was rained out, we decided to have a make-up day. Wings & Wheels is normally on the 3rd Saturday of the month, but we had so many Beechcraft lined up that we didn't want to disappoint, so we rescheduled it and filled the ramp with Beechcraft and other airplanes as well!

Raffle day - Cessna Fly-in

Join us as we draw the winner of the raffle plane.

Buy a ticket today, and you could be the lucky winner!

Experimental Aircraft Day!

Many hundreds of hours of work go into building your own aircraft at home.

Even if you start with a kit, there is still a tremendous amount of fabrication and assembly to be done. But, if you ask anyone who has built their own airplane, it is worth it for at the end, you have an airplane that is custom-fit and custom-designed to your choosing.

Join us on this day to see some of these home-built custom creations, as well as many other Experimental-category airplanes!

Museum 70th Anniversary Day

On September 28, 1940, the Houston Municipal Airport terminal opened for business. There was a huge party on this day, the parking lot was full of cars, and attendees watched the arrivals and departures of Braniff Airlines and Eastern Airlines DC-2's and DC-3's from the second-story observation decks.

70 years later, the old Houston Municipal Airport building is now The 1940 Air Terminal Museum, and we want to have a party to out-do the one they had on that day. Join us to be part of this celebration!

International Biplane Association Day/Hobby Hangar Hop

Join us in October for the inaugural biplane fly-in hosted by Chapter 2 of the International Biplane Association! If you have a biplane, know someone who has a biplane, or just like biplanes you need to come in for this event!

Salute to Veterans - Warbird Fly-In

In November we celebrate Veterans Day by inviting any and all warbirds to fly in! Weather-permitting, the Commemorative Air Force, Collings Foundation, and/or the Lone Star Flight Museum may be offering rides in WWII-era aircraft for an additional donation. Anyone who currently serves or who has served in the armed forces will receive free admission on this day by presenting their military ID.

HoustonSpotters & Museum Volunteer Appreciation Day

HoustonSpotters.Net is a website dedicated to plane spotting in Houston.

HoustonSpotters day is all about plane spotting and photography. Ramp tours of Hobby will be arranged, and groups of people will be taken around the field to spot planes and take photos.

This day is also a tribute to our invaluable volunteers who make museum events such as Wings & Wheels possible!
