NOTICE! This month’s Wings & Wheels will be held on the 4th Saturday (October 22nd, 2011) to avoid a conflict with Wings Over Houston.

Please join us as we celebrate the Air Races!  The National Championship Races, The Red Bull Air Races, The Air Race Classic and many more exciting air races will be featured. We will hope to draw many racing aircraft and have pilots on hand to tell about their racing experiences!

Schedule of the day’s events to be posted.

Also please be sure to visit our Houston Air Race exhibit in the General Aviation Gallery- where we have the only video of the Cirrus Air Derby’s contestants touching down in Houston in 1930!

Wings & Wheels- Celebrating Women’s Role in Aviation!

Join us for this Wings & Wheels day as we salute all of the women who have contributed to the field of aviation over the years.

We will have representatives from several women’s aviation organizations: The Ninety-Nines, Women in Aviation International, Girls With Wings, and many others on-hand for this event, and we would love to have you, too!

Please also join us in welcoming Rene Armstrong in her Houston book signing debut:

Letters of War and Love from a WWII Pilot

When René Armstrong’s husband found a box of 295 letters in a junk store, he had no idea the profound piece of history in his possession. Thus began a journey to discover who these two young people were who met on a blind date, communicating to each other over three years in the only way this era could afford – through love letters that encompassed two continents.

James Richard Jones and Helen Elnora Bartlett had a wartime romance whose voice was heard fifty-eight years later, crying out to be listened to. Enhanced with official, now declassified government documents, the love story of J.R. and Elnora unfolds as he writes to the love of his life from the jungles of New Guinea.

Held together by Wings and a Ring, their promise of tomorrow would have to survive a year of war.
