It was on this day in 2004 that the 1940 Air Terminal at Hobby Airport was reopened to the public as the 1940 Air Terminal Museum. After being shuttered in 1975 and following an attempt by concerned citizens and Continental Airlines to preserve the building in 1985, it would have to wait until 1999 for the Houston Aeronautical Heritage Society to cement the deal with the city and begin restoration efforts. The included photo shows HAHS Board Chairman and former Trans Texas Airways Chief Pilot, Capt AJ High, at that dedication ceremony in 2004.
Since that day this historic building has been open to the citizens of Houston as a beautiful example of period design and as a modern landmark for Houston history.
