Come on by the 1940 Air Terminal Museum at Houston Hobby Airport this Saturday, March 16 and join us for another Wings and Wheels! This month we have a four-day buildup to Wings and Wheels: Enjoy the RISE ABOVE Travelling Exhibit from Tuesday, March 12 through Saturday, and learn the history and determination of the Tuskegee Airmen as presented by the CAF Red Tail Squadron! On Saturday we will have the RISE ABOVE Travelling Exhibit plus the B-17 ‘Texas Raiders’!
The RISE ABOVE Travelling Exhibit is a wonderful opportunity to learn and be inspired by the story of the Tuskegee Airmen while being immersed in a theatrical experience. The exhibit is a mobile big-screen theater presenting a short original movie, “RISE ABOVE”, which focuses on the challenges these young men had to overcome to be allowed to fly and fight for their country in World War II. The exhibit reflects the CAF Red Tail Squadron’s educational mission of showing guests, especially young people, amazing possibilities. “The overall message is about rising above adversity to reach your potential no matter your circumstances; the film uses the story of the Tuskegee Airmen and the story of the Red Tail Squadron to inspire young people to achieve their potential,” said Brad Lang of the CAF Red Tail Squadron. “But the message resonates with all ages because of the unique and interactive way it is told. This is an experience you won’t want to miss.”
The 1940 Air Terminal Museum is proud to host this exhibit, and we thank sponsors including Texas Flying Legends Museum, Universal Weather and Aviation, and Gulf Coast Aviation for sponsoring their visit.
On Saturday for Wings and Wheels we will be joined by our friends Texas Raiders, the magnificent B-17G maintained and operated by the CAF Gulf Coast Wing. The “TR” are starting their 2013 tour and will make us their second stop, fresh from the Brownsville Air Fiesta. There are only eleven airworthy B-17s in the WORLD. Be among the first to ride a B-17 this year – Wings and Wheels is actually the first stop on the 2013 tour that they will sell rides on!
As always, we welcome any and all aircraft to our ramp. Check back here for updates, or just stop by Houston Hobby Airport on the third Saturday and let’s see what flies in!
Have you seen this year’s Raffle Plane? Our beautiful 1969 Piper Cherokee 140B will make some lucky ticketholder fly high in July! A $50 raffle ticket could become your ticket to the joy of aviation!
