Pops & Props 2003
The 2nd Annual Pops & Props Gala and Silent Auction was held on Saturday, January 25, 2003. Net proceeds from the event exceeded $20,000, all of which was dedicated exclusively to the restoration of the 1940 Air Terminal Museum Project.
For one magical evening, the Duke Energy hangar at Houston's William P. Hobby Airport was transformed into an elegant scene from a bygone era. Tuxedoed waiters greeted guests with flutes of champagne and delicious canapes. In the shadow of the museum's 1943 Lockheed Lodestar, The Ronnie Renfrow Big Band played hits from Glenn Miller and other 1940's big band leaders as the Houston Swing Dance Society performed. After an elegantly catered dinner, guests bid on a unique selection of aviation collectibles on the Silent Auction tables and danced the night away.
Pops & Props 2003 was generously underwritten by Southwest Airlines, and sponsored by: Coats & Evans, P.C.; Chiang, Patel & Yerby; Jeffrey Weiss; Universal Weather & Aviation; Pearland State Bank; Baseops International; Tribble & Stephens; Ricondo & Associates; R&M Service Co., Inc.; The Marjorie Evans Foundation; National Business Aviation Association; Sterling Bank in Honor of Oscar Nipper; and Uvair Fuel.
The beautiful Lockheed Lodestar was generously donated by Paul F. Barnhart, Sr.
