The Houston Municipal Airport:
National Guard Hangar, 1939-1940


The National Guard Hangar at William P. Hobby Airport is one of the oldest structures remaining on the airport property today.

Great care was taken to make this hangar and office space architecturally interesting. Note the art deco entrance to the offices and curved twin taxiways leading to each end of the hangar.

Under Construction:
The National Guard Hangar was constructed primarily during 1939. From this airside view, we see the framed office space facing the taxiway.

Almost Finished:
From this airside view, we can see that the offices are enclosed and almost finished while work continues on the grand taxiway entrance and hangar. This photograph was taken after one of Houston's rare snowstorms in the winter of 1940.
