Discussions are underway with two departments at Texas A&M University about helping with our Educational Program. Initial efforts focus on collaborations with the History and Atmospheric Sciences departments. Dr. Tony Stranges teaches courses on the history of science and technology and has expressed a keen interest in teacher education. Graduate student (s) could focus their master’s work on themes around which the Museum is organized or teacher education courses such as the history of aeronautics and meteorology or the American history and technology. Texas A&M professors may help with courses offered to teachers through the museum. Recently, we formulated a |

tentative set of guidelines with the Department of Atmospheric Sciences. Dr. Kenneth Bowman and Dr. Brian Heckman discussed a number of possible ways the department could assist in the higher education program, especially with the teacher workshops and graduate courses for teachers. The following collaborations are under consideration: · Department facilities could be available for teacher workshops or graduate courses during the summer months or when free from normal course workloads. This could include distance-learning facilities that are connected to the state-wide broadband network. · College credit could most likely be offered through |

· TAMU, but details have to be worked out. · Dr. Brian Heckman may serve as an adjunct faculty member providing the required liaison between the educational program and the department. The Texas Engineering Experimental Station (TEES) Research Development and Grant Writing program may also provide assistance to the Museum as we explore avenues for obtaining grant money for teachers wishing to participate in the educational programs. We expect to meet with Drs.
Bowman, Stranges, and others at TAMU once we’ve had an opportunity to review
our educational programs. |
