Text Box: The 2nd Annual Pops & Props Gala and Silent Auction was held on Saturday, January 25, 2002. The Duke Energy hangar at Hobby Airport was transformed into an elegant scene from a bygone era. The Ronnie Renfro Big Band played hits from Glenn Miller and other 1940’s big band leaders. The Gala also featured fabulous Silent Auction items and information about the 1940 Air Terminal Museum.
The event raised over Text Box: $20,000, which has been exclusively dedicated to the First Phase of restoration of the 1940 Air Terminal, and which helped us complete matching the Houston Endowment’s generous grant.
During Pops & Props, we were able to unveil Jon Frank’s new painting and the beautiful Lockheed Lodestar recently donated to the Museum.
Pops & Props also featured Dave Mason’s Gullwing Stinson, Tommy Baccarro’s and Bob Supina’s Packard cars, Terry Williams’ Ford Coupe, and Ralph Hall’s vintage Phillips 66 gashopper.
We want to offer special thanks to the 2nd Annual Pops & Props Underwriter, Southwest Airlines, all of our Table Sponsors and attendees, and our silent auction item donors.
Photographer SebasText Box: tian Biraldi generously donated his time to photograph the event. Several of his photos appear in this issue of the Starliner, and additional photos can be seen on Sebastian’s website, which is linked to our Museum website.
We are grateful to Duke Energy for generously allowing us to use its outstanding facility and for their great hospitality.
We would also like to thank the volunteers who helped make the Gala a success, T.J. & Carol Zalar, Brian & Ann Text Box: 2nd Annual Pops & Props Gala was a Tremendous Success
