Museum update - THC signs 6 month lease

As you may have seen in the article linked below, THC has signed a 6 month lease with the City of Houston while state officials take a closer look at what it would cost to keep the property running. That review will include the building’s maintenance backlog, what upgrades would be required to meet safety and accessibility standards, and whether operating the museum can be sustained economically.

"While there is no guarantee for the 1940 Air Terminal Museum to be reopened as a state historic site, we enter this final phase of assessment with optimism," said Joseph Bell, Executive Director of the Texas Historical Commission. "We will make every consideration possible to move forward in that direction."

As we have mentioned previously, to date, our museum has passed ALL requirements for inclusion into THC's historic sites program.

We are delighted that THC is taking steps (within their regulatory construct) to preserve and protect the museum building and its contents. This is by far the best outcome for the museum and the public at large.

We look forward to the reopening of the museum!

However, with that said, our non-profit still has debts to pay off, and we are still in the process of liquidating some non-core assets. These are items we have acquired over the years that are not central to the mission of telling the story of civil aviation in Houston.

We will continue to list new items, so check back often!

You can find all items available for sale here:

You can also donate to help with this here:

If you have seen a specific item in the museum or hangar, and wish to acquire it, please do not post comments on our social media, but instead contact us via email at info@1940airterminal.org or our contact form:

Please do not call! Since we are shut down, no one is there to answer the phone.

As a reminder, the LEGO museum is still on the LEGO Ideas site! We need 10,000 likes to get LEGO to review it to possibly become an official set.

Setting up a LEGO account and supporting the idea is free!

Also, soon, we will offer the Bricklink Studio file along with instructions for sale on the website! This will only be instructions and the file, no bricks are for sale. You can use the Studio file to export a list for purchasing the required bricks on various LEGO websites, or build from your own collection.

Thank you for your support.
